Job Title:      Subject Leader – Physical Education

Job Purpose:

The Subject Leader will ensure that there is consistency of teaching, continuity in context and skills, and high standards of learning throughout the school.

Duties:

The Specialist teacher /subject Leader will:

  • teach lessons in their specialist subject to classes across the school
  • coordinate the development of a cohesive and effective long-term plan in your subject;
  • ensure that medium-term planning meets all National Curriculum requirements;
  • review, monitor and evaluate current practice (including schemes and policies) and provide feedback to the Senior Leadership Team;
  • support, motivate and advise staff, and work alongside them in the development of their classroom practice, where appropriate. This includes providing support for Early Career teachers in their specialist area;
  • lead by example, through good classroom practice;
  • disseminate information to the staff, and provide INSET to promote staff development and improve classroom practice when required;
  • build professional capacity in all staff within your subject area
  • mentor and coach staff if asked to do so by the leadership team
  • contribute an annual review of the subject for the School Improvement Plan;
  • maintain an up-to-date knowledge of local and national initiatives, by attending relevant courses;
  • be responsible for the budget allocated to the subject area, and prioritise resource needs as indicated in the School Improvement Plan;
  • monitor the quality of teaching and learning through an examination of samples of work, discussion with pupils and input to lesson observation
  • co-ordinate the school’s involvement in inter-school competitions
  • Liaise with peripatetic sports coaches to ensure high quality provision
  • Build links with the South Cambridgeshire Sports Partnership so that the school can take part in activities in the wider community.
  • Run inter- house competitions each term so that all children have an opportunity to experience competitive sporting activities
