Salary: National Joint Pay Scale: Level 2 point 5/6
Contract type: part-time, 18.75 hours, 3 days per week Mon-Weds, term-time only, working with a named child and ending when the child leaves the school
Reporting to: Class Teacher and Headteacher/SENCO
Responsible for: Supporting the learning of a non-verbal Year 1 child with ASD (currently working below Y1 level).
Duties and responsibilities
The child you will be supporting has a range of needs associated with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, and will require support with:
- Language and communication skills
- Shared and focused attention
- Developing early learning skills
- Emotional regulation
- Sensory sensitivities
- Self-help skills and independence
We are looking for a TA who:
- has experience of working with a non-verbal pupil with ASD
- is able to build positive relationships with pupils, promoting high self-esteem and independence
- can adapt their communication style to respond to pupils according to their individual needs
- can support pupils with their social, emotional and mental health needs, escalating concerns where appropriate
- promotes high standards of behaviour, responding to incidents in line with the school’s behaviour policy and guidelines on physical intervention
- can work collaboratively with staff, parents/carers and professionals to achieve the desired progress against the outcomes in the child’s EHCP
- will assist with the development and delivery of individual education and support plans
- will assist with playtime and lunchtime supervision
- will work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and our safeguarding and child protection policies
- will promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school
Depending on the hours that the successful candidate will be contracted to work with the named child, there may also be an opportunity to provide part-time general TA support to the EYFS/Y1 class.
