Hauxton Primary School
Hauxton Primary school (www.hauxtonprimary.org) is located five miles from the centre of Cambridge and two miles from junction 11 of the M11. Hauxton village has a population of approximately 700, however a new housing development of over 200 dwellings is almost completed and will bring substantial changes to the village over the next two years. In preparation for these changes, and to accomodate our already growing number of pupils, an extension to the school was completed in July 2015. We now have 4 clasrooms, as well as a hall with kitchen attached. The older part of the building has been re-ordered and refurbished to enable the provision of a larger staffroom, Headteacher’s office and a meeting/PPA room.
Our school grounds are surrounded by mature trees and has a stream that divides the hard playground from a large grassy area. A wooden bridge provides access between the two areas. A range of wooden playground equipment and picnic tables are in place and well used by the children and our local community as the grounds remain open, outside of school hours throughout the year. An outdoor heated swimming pool, run by Trustees, is open from summer half term until September. Again, this is open to the wider village community, outside of school hours, through the purchase of a season ticket. We take full advantage of this facility, by taking the children into the pool as often as possible during the summer term.
The majority of our children live in Hauxton with approximately 28% travelling in from neighbouring villages. There are 96 children on role at present, split between four classes: EYFS/ Y1, Y1/Y2, Y3/4, Y5/6. We have a very supportive community and an active parent teacher association (H.S.A.). They provide extra resources and funding through a range of activities that take place throughout the year.
Staff and Governors
The staffing structure at the moment is: Headteacher; Assistant Headteacher (additional release time from class for leadership role); two further full-time teachers and two part-time teachers. We have seven teaching assistants. There is a school administrator / bursar as well as a school caterer and a site manager. Three midday supervisors work with the children each lunchtime.
The Governing Board is chaired by Mr Simon Burgin and consists of co-opted, parent and staff governors including the Headteacher. The governors work closely with the school, making regular, timetabled visits to monitor our work and oversee the strategic direction of the school.
