Ely St John’s Community Primary School
Ely St John’s Primary School, is a two form entry primary school sitting close to the centre of the lovely city of Ely. We have 462 pupils on roll and two classes in each year group.
We are a good school and our most recent Ofsted was in November 2018. We endeavour to provide a curriculum that acknowledges the importance of the basic skills, and the value of repetition and practice. We also acknowledge the need to embed those skills across the curriculum to enhance the children’s ability to reflect and respond to their learning across the range of subjects. We provide many enrichment activities to enable the children to develop skills and talents that interest them.
The outdoor environment is as important to our learning as the indoors. We have a fantastic nature garden, allotment and spinneys used for den making. We try to provide as many trips, visits and visitors as we can and are in walking distance of the wonderful resources Ely has to offer including the river; Ely Cathedral and the Museum. Our belief is that community means experiencing learning together in collaboration. We work hard to develop that sense of collaboration including opportunities for ensemble music making and sport within and around our school.
Our aim is to provide a caring, friendly school community in which every child and adult feels valued and secure. We actively promote a clear code of conduct through our EJ Way. We set a high standard of expectation for both behaviour and for achievement and the children rise to the challenge. Our Behaviour Policy shows our commitment to a therapeutic approach to teaching behaviour that requires us to meet need; teach behaviour and aim for children to be pro-social and intrinsically motivated.
We want to continue to be a school where people wish to be and belong. We hope you will come and join our fantastic staff.
